When did you stop feeling C-section incision pain? Did I overdo it in the early weeks of recovery?

I still feel random sharp pains and exactly where the c-section incisions were on the inside, and I had it 4/12/07. How long does it take for a person to feel normal again? I did really overdo it one day when we had a flood in our basement about 2 weeks after birth because some stuff had to be moved around / heavy lifting to avoid a serious mold problem. I had to lay down and tried to get back up after laying down and felt a horrible rip inside. Have I caused myself permanent damage? I mentioned it to several doctors and they said I should be ok, but I found it disturbing that they never wanted to actually check the inside incisions via ultrasound or soemthing. Did you overdo it too soon after a c-section, and if so when and how did you eventually heal up? Are there any exercises I should do?

I had a c-section just a day later than you and have done well. I had some serious pain right after because I was home alone with the baby for the first two weeks and when I went to get my staples out, some had actually twisted because I was doing too much. However, now I'm not really feeling much pain except when I start my period - the cramps are a bit worse than they used to be. I did pull a muscle within the first month after my section because I picked up my two-year-old niece without thinking( I immediately sat her back down!!!).

As for the "rip", it was probably a pulled muscle like mine. My doc said that the skin heals much quicker than the muscles and fascia inside due to more blood flow. The fascia and muscles take MONTHS to heal and if you do something to strain them, there is the possibility that you can rip the muscular sutures out. My doc said this wasn't a huge problem just a temporary setback in my healing process. Had you ruptured your uterus or damaged the sutures in your uterus, then you would be bleeding horribly and then doctors would most definitely be concerned.

If the pain keeps up, call your OB/GYN and demand some answers...More than likely, you just overdid it a little bit and sat yourself back in your healing. I recommend using a heating pad on the area...heat helps incisions heal.

Good luck and congrats on your new family addition!
Reply:I've had 2 c-sections, so I've been there. It's not fun, but no reason to worry typically. My pain lasted for months. It went from very painful (1-5 months) to sometimes painful (6-12 months), to only painful if my son stepped on my stomach(12-18 months). It's been 2 years now since he was born and if I press on it or he kicks it hard (when squirming out of my arms for instance), it still feels a little bad. So that's probably why the doctors don't do anything. It's just how it is.

Of course crunches will help tighted things up, but never do anything if it causes any more pain then you already have. I doubt if they'd fix any pain. Enjoy your wonderful new gift. Baby's are amazing, you're very blessed to have one.
Reply:I had my c-sections 30 years ago and still have sharp pains when I sneeze, etc. But I would definitely take it easy. Yes, you did over-do it. You need time to heal. Take it easy for a while and your body will tell you when you are doing better. Sit-ups are a great exercise, all though it is more difficult after a c-section because your stomach muscles have been cut. But before doing that...take time to heal.
Reply:I have had two c-sections and the pain can last up to 6 weeks, anything longer could be a signal that there is scar tissue buildup, which is what I had, For a year later, anytime it was that time of the month, I had pain in the incision area. It's very normal and if it's uncomfortable, take pain relief.

No exercises are able to relief the pain but of course sit ups and push ups to help get rid of the bulge. Altho, the sec, around my stomach looks like a sewn over pouch no matter how much I try to flatten it. For me, they just reopened my old scar and then got my son out and then resewed it up and you can actually feel the scar tissue around the incision.

I know myself, was up one hour after each time i had the c-sec. and walking and moving regardless of pain, I was too excited to just sit and recover. Maybe that's why I had the trouble but it's worth it.
Reply:Ive had 2 c sections. My most recent was Feb 2006. I am finally heald just recently after this one. My first took me even longer to heal and hurt untill I had this recent one. I think it really all depends on how your body heals and how fast of a healer you are. I take forever to recover from cuts and such so it took me longer to get over the c sections. I wouldnt worry too much about tearing inside as if you had done so you would be in much much much much more pain and there would be other things going on by now. I think at times I still get phantom pains from the c secotion but there never too bad.
