New printer install- not working- and where the heck is the C: drive?

I volunteer for a non-profit and we had a used color printer donated (HP Deskjet). I tried to “add” it to their (one and only) computer, but couldn’t do it. I’m wondering if its because I don’t have “admin” privileges. I don’t have my own user name (I use another person’s username and password- with their permission), and nobody knows the admin password. I should mention that I’m the most computer-literate of the bunch, so the “buck stops here”, so to speak.

The computer is old, has Windows 2000, I think. Not a Mac. I also can’t find the C, A or D drives. (Tried Windows Explorer, etc.) Only found weird drives I’ve never heard of, like I and U.

In terms of printer install, here’s what I tried:

Plugged it in, waited for “New Hardware Found” sign. Nada.

Used “Install New printer Wizard”. It wouldn’t recognize a “local printer”, only listed “network printer” option. Tried that, but couldn’t find a C drive.

Tried logging on as “admin” and guessing random passwords. Nope. Help?

You can check the account your using if its administrator or not.

Click Start-%26gt;Control Panel. then choose User Account.

Check if the account type is administrator or not.

I will just assume you have an administrator account.

In installing a new printer here's what to know.

The printer must have its own cd for it driver. If it doesn't have a cd with it. You need to download a driver from the internet. Just type your hp product in the link below.

How is the printer connected to the computer?

usb? if usb you need a usb2 driver. you can just update your windows 2000 using the windows update or mircosoft update.
Reply:You wont get anywhere without Admin Rights.
